How to survive the first week back at work 2018!

As some of you might know I work a Corporate Job also, after having 3 weeks off over the Holiday period it is safe to save the first week back at work is a massive struggle!

Constant thoughts run through your mind, why do I have to be back at work? I should of taken more leave, Would taking a sick day this early on look suspect? Maybe I could start a business and give this all up?

As you scroll through Expedia and place Annual Leave to make the Public Holidays coming up much longer you realize you are not mentally invested in a New Year!

To help you with this, as I sit at my desk I thought I would give you some of my tips on how to survive the first week back at work.

I have always thought that life is made easier when you have something to look forward to. If you have a lovely Stay-cation planned in the near future when that customer really pisses you off you can take a deep breathe in and say 'This job is the reason I get to fly to Cancun next month!'

If I got a dollar for every time a colleague asked 'How was your break?' 'What did you get up to?' 'What did you do for New Years?' I would be able to afford said Cancun trip.

Next year I am going to invest in a printed T-Shirt that I wear on the first day into work that states everything that occurred over the break then I can just point and say 'Read Babe!'.

If you are not interested in these constant questions about your personal life I have developed two strategies to assist.

People love to talk about themselves - turn it around say 'My break was great, but tell me about yours!' Then they will be so consumed by themselves they will completely forget about asking you anything further! Genius!

Trust me, it is A LOT harder for someone to come over and annoy you if you are focused on your screen and wearing headphones. Smile and type furiously baby!

My job allows me this comfort. If I come into work earlier I feel I can get a lot more completed. This gives you time to also sit with your headphones off ! It also gives you the opportunity to leave work earlier. This results in you being able to get out into that beautiful sun you have been staring at all day!

Do not get caught up in the trap of 'Oh it is the first week back I will get to that next week' Newsflash - next week has more work coming along. Start your New Year by not procrastinating, do what you need to get done when you need to do it! Trust me it will make your life easier!

Okay okay okay, I get it. The first week back is hard and you might not care about how Sharon lost her keys to the Camper-van over the break but deep down you do love your job and the people in your business - if you don't get a new job because this is a very important aspect!

Even though the morning struggles are real try not to be the grumpy bitch in the corner. No one likes her.

Be nice, understand that the first week back is like going to the gym after some time off, you hate it completely, curse at everything, and nearly flat out refuse to continue (well that is me when I go back to the gym anyway!) but if you push through to the next week it will not be so bad.
